Introduction
The HSE's (Health and Safety Executive) mission statement is, "To ensure that risks to people's health & safety from work activities are properly controlled." To support this mission there are legal requirements on all businesses that extend to personal liability of the company directors.
On the 1st January 1993 regulations entitled the Management of Health & Safety Regulations were implemented in the UK as a result of EC legislation.
The regulations are accompanied with five others identifying them as the "six pack". The "six pack" has separate topics but they have a common theme of risk assessment. The MaSh Health & Safety programme covers the 'six-pack' and introduces you to risk assessment.

Identify risk and hazards
Estimate & assess risk
Document and record significant findings

Programme Content Day 1
Participants are introduced to the legislation and the philosophy behind it. They then look at the law in practice and consider their own organisation's interpretation of legislation, in terms of Health and Safety standards. The HSE Six Pack plays an important part in the programme and the day culminates with the assignment of a work-based project based on the Six Pack
Day 2 (ideally 2 to 4 weeks later)
The programme offers the skills and techniques for risk assessment which participants are then able to apply to their projects. This produces a current and highly relevant action list that will enable their organisation to comply with the letter and the spirit of the law
