Introduction
Employment legislation has developed considerably over recent years. With more European Directives being enshrined in UK law, and the spread of ‘fairness’ and workers’ rights, current legislation puts considerable responsibility on all managers.
As with all law ignorance is no defence. Managers need to understand what employment law is, what they need to do and not do. The law may be complex – but it is not difficult to follow if it is clearly understood. A recent government statement confirmed that the single biggest reason for employment tribunals finding ‘against’ businesses was simply not following a laid down disciplinary procedure.
The consequences of not acting within the law can be considerable for the manager concerned and the organisation as a whole. This programme is designed to equip managers with the knowledge and skills practice they need to act within the law as they manage their people.
