Introduction
It is vital in today’s competitive and rapidly changing business climate that companies are able to attract and retain managers and specialists with an effective skills mix. The cost of recruitment is high and it is important to keep attrition levels down, despite the attractions offered by other companies. Training and development will often help to retain the career minded but is sometimes not enough. There is a growing demand amongst ambitious managers, particularly those under thirty, to receive unbiased career development guidance. This programme focuses on developing managers to enable them to facilitate the development of their people's careers. It enable the manger to step into the unbiased role of career guidance - not in a prescriptive way but in a challenging and mentoring way helping their people to take charge of their careers and acting as their unofficial champions within the organisation.
